换妻探花 Athletics is delighted to announce that former player and assistant coach, Jake Wilmott, will be stepping in as interim head coach of the men鈥檚 basketball team.
Jake has been involved in coaching in the community for the past 10 years with Rex Summer Sports Camps and most recently was head coach of the Shawnigan Lake Senior Boys, Vikes Nation Elite Under 13 Head Coach, and assistant coach with the Chargers. Wilmott has also coached the St. Michael鈥檚 University School (SMU) junior and grade 7 boys, and the Derby Trailblazers Under 18 girls and under 14 boys.
鈥淢y time as a student athlete at Camosun showed me that being involved in teams is the most valuable experience a young person can have. I hope to be a consistent presence of leadership for the athletes I coach and bring them a rounded experience as Chargers student athletes in the same ways that I had,鈥 said Wilmott. 鈥淢y priorities are to see the athletes excel as people and students as well as players. I am extremely excited to work with this group and refocus as a coach instead of a player on achieving our shared goals.鈥澛
鈥淲e are excited to welcome Jake as the next head coach of the men鈥檚 basketball team.聽 He brings an outstanding tactical understanding of the game, and is a naturally gifted leader with an ability to effectively communicate in a meaningful way,鈥 said Cory Ahlers, Athletics Events Officer. 鈥淛ake has been an impactful Charger as a student-athlete and assistant coach, and is well deserving of this opportunity to take the next step in his coaching career.鈥
Jake spent five years playing basketball at Camosun, earning Pacific Western Athletic Association (PACWEST) bronze medals in 2019 and 2020, along with PACWEST All-Star recognition in 2022. Following his career with the Chargers, Wilmott joined the National Basketball League 1 in the United Kingdom with the Derby Trailblazers from 2022-2024.
Camosun currently fields teams in basketball and volleyball. Since joining the CCAA and Pacific West Athletic Association (PACWEST) conferences in 1994, the Chargers have competed in over 100 national and provincial championships with over 50 medal winning finishes. The Chargers basketball and volleyball programs are proud to welcome guests and visitors to their home in the聽聽(PISE) on Camosun's Interurban campus.聽
